A degree in automotive engineering helps to will help you develop skills and knowledge in modern automotive development. After graduating, you will have gained the skills to work in design, production or research. Roles include automotive design engineer, vehicle development engineer and reliability engineer. You could also use these skills for careers in sectors including construction and manufacturing, security or defence.

Electrical and electronics engineering

A varied degree in itself, this subject area covers both the production of electricity and the development and testing of electrical systems. With so many opportunities following an engineering degree, it is a great first step for someone looking for a successful career. Mohsen from Iran came to the University of Sussex International Study Centre to study an International Foundation Year, which provided him with the necessary language and engineering skills to progress on to his undergraduate degree and PhD at the University. Thanks to his academic journey, Mohsen now works for a start-up in Sussex.

"Working for a start-up and obviously, as any sort of would, I'm hoping we would be the next big success. So my aim is that. I first came to Sussex in 2006. I started doing a foundation degree with the ISC, and after finishing, that I did a bachelor's degree in University of Sussex in electronics. When I finish my degree, I was offered a position to do, a PhD in Sussex in electronics, and that's where I started working on sensors and devices for analysing physiological signals which are signals in human body and finishing that work and following up from there. I came in contact with the company I work for now and working at The Innovation Center for a startup company.

Looking bad back at it at the years I was at Sussex at the ISC it was very useful for me. Maybe a slow start helped me a lot to kind of get used to the environment. Get accustomed with the new language and also relearn some of the physics and mathematics and courses I perhaps knew but in the new language and make sure I know the terms and I understand. Biggest achievement of to date. I'm very proud of the work I'm doing now. Whether is the biggest achievement yet or not? Maybe it's too early for me to say, I still got a little bit more to go to be able to say anything like that."
