Student stories - Yolanda

Students studying on campus

"I am so glad that I did this as the foundation of knowledge I learned at the International Study Centre set me up well for my second year at Sussex."

“I was well prepared by my International Year programme. I am so glad that I did this as the foundation of knowledge I learned at the International Study Centre set me up well for my second year at Sussex. The subject knowledge has been very useful and gave me a head start at Sussex when I progressed. The experience of the International Study Centre is unique, because you can meet a lot of different nationalities there, which provides you with an understanding of diversity and multiculturalism.

Studying International Development at Sussex is amazing. I enjoy the interdisciplinary overview of developments in the context of culture and history. I think it is quite relevant for my further studies and my career.

I really love my degree. It has exceeded all my expectations. It is inspiring me so much as I explore new areas of my subject. My modules are very exciting and I am happy with my grades and progress as I come towards the end of my degree. I am meeting with interesting students and expert tutors, a chance I will never have again.”

YOLANDA FROM CHINA

International Year One in International Relations and International Development

"I'm from China. And my name is Yolanda and I studied my International Year One in the ISC last year. And I'm majoring in International Development now. I think the experience of ISC is unique, it's because you could meet a lot of different nationalities there and which provides you with a life understanding of diversity and the multiculturalism. I think it's a wonderful chance to make new friends and who come from different countries. I think being international student here, like be confident and don't be shy, don't worry about your English ability and try to explore new area and new people here."
